Dozens of A-List celebrities are working together for a multi-network telethon airing next week to help victims by Hurricane Harvey.
The “Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief” telethon was created by Bun B and Scooter Braun. It will air Sept. 12 on ABC, CBS, CMT, Fox, NBC, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube starting at 8 P.M. EST.
The celebrities scheduled to be featured on the telethon include Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, Kelly Rowland, Reese Witherspoon, Jamie Foxx, Matthew McConaughey, Adam Sandler, and more. Viewers can send donations via phone, text messaging and the telethon’s website, HandInHand2017.com . Braun, a music talent manager, previously helped organize the One Love Manchester benefit concert in June after 22 attendees of an Ariana Grande concert were killed during a May 22 bombing. The concert earned 14.5 million viewers and raised millions of dollars for the victims.
More celebrity acts are expected to be announced, but one big name is absolutely on the ‘Do Not Invite’ list. Bun B said recently that Donald Trump is not welcome to attend the telethon.
“Putting Trump on by himself would send the wrong message and people wouldn’t buy the sincerity of it,” Bun said. “After what he did in Charlottesville, he’s not a symbol of unity and it would rub people the wrong way.”
The “Hand in Hand” telethon will send its donations to the United Way of Greater Houston, Habitat for Humanity, Save the Children, Feeding Texas, Direct Relief and the Mayor’s Fund for Hurricane Harvey relief. There have been at least 60 people killed from Harvey in a matter of days.
