The charitable Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter has partnered with respected jeweler Lorraine Schwartz to create a scholarship fund for Black students interested in the jewelry industry. Through this fund, the duo will offer three $20,000 scholarships to Black students pursuing a career in the competitive industry. Scholarships will help cover tuition, travel, fees and much more at the Gemological Institute of America.
“I’m so full of gratitude. I’m honored, and I’m so excited for the opportunity,” scholarship recipient Audriana Osborne told WSFA.
The hope for me is to absolutely learn all I possibly can and fuse the knowledge I have now and the career I have now with a career in the jewelry industry.”
The GRAMMY Award-winning superstar addressed the three recipients in a video message. She told the future jewelers that she hopes this scholarship fund will lead to more diversity within the industry.
“I was impressed with their passion and the knowledge of gems that so many applicants displayed,” she told the scholars.
“I am praying that this is just the beginning of opening more doors to diversity and raw inspiration in the jewelry industry.”
