In November, BET announced that it would be filming a miniseries about the life of singer and entertainer, Bobby Brown. Today, viewers learned a little more about the upcoming series as BET revealed the cast for this anticipated miniseries. The star studded cast will feature Mekhi Phifer, Lance Gross, Laz Alonso, Lil Rel Howery, Alyssa Gross, Sandi McCree and T.K. Carter. Playing the lead role of Bobby Brown is Woody McClain, who played the role in BET’s The New Edition Story not long ago.

According to a report from Deadline, Mekhi Phifer earned the role of Brown’s brother, Carter will play Brown’s father and McCree will continue her role from The New Edition Story as Brown’s mother. Depicting the business end of Brown’s Career, Howery will play Brown’s business manager, Brian Irvine and Alonso will play the role of Louil Silas Jr., a producer executive who helped Brown reach success as a solo act. Other prominent roles include Goss playing Bobby’s current wife, Alicia Etheridge and Gross portraying Steven Sealy, a childhood friend of Bobby’s who is killed in a gunfight after hanging with him at a hometown bar.
The miniseries is set to take place immediately following where The New Edition Story left off. Chronicling over thirty years of the singer’s life, the miniseries will tackle his departure from New Edition, relationship with Janet Jackson, marriage to Whitney Houston and everything in between. Production on the film has already began in Atlanta, so stay tuned for more news and development on this BET miniseries.
