As usual, with any change that happens, it comes with a backlash from the internet that most of the time is warranted. In the case of the NBA owners voting to approve NBA teams to allow ads to be featured on jerseys starting in the 2017-18 season, it was unwarranted backlash. Understandably, everyone wants the jerseys to be ad free because it has been for many years but the fact of the matter is, it’s something that’s bound to happen.
Everyone automatically assumed the jerseys would look like what soccer and the WNBA have, a big clunky logo in the middle of the jersey taking up a ton of space. What people don’t realize is the actual placement and location of the ad is very specific and the 2016 NBA All-Star jerseys were a prime example of what to expect. You won’t see a huge airline name across the middle of the jerseys and you definetely will not see teams remove their names completely in place of a sponsors name and the ads on jerseys will be for a three year trial and finally, the jerseys won’t be sold at retailers with ads on it, so where’s the problem? The NBA makes more money and if your team makes more money they can do more cool things like promotions, giveaways and such. So relax everyone.
But without further ado, here are some of the best mockups made by people on twitter and some of them actually don’t look bad.

I thought the ads on jerseys were going to be kind of gross, but they’re actually pretty subtle. pic.twitter.com/6h4RsMzqWg
