Toronto, Ontario and the surrounding twos have been at the forefront of R&B, Soul and Pop for nearly a decade. From PARTYNEXTDOOR to Dylan Sinclair, the region is never short on talent. As the previous crop of Toronto newcomers cements their place in the modern music landscape, a new crop is emerging and ready to carry on the legacy. Toronto’s own Benita grew up starring in musicals, performing in school coffee houses, signing backup for Daniel Caesar and opening for Savannah Rei. Now, she’s ready to become the city’s next headliner.
On Thursday, October 17, Benita shared her latest single, “Hope U Find.” Produced by Noah and Ethan Barer, the nearly three-minute track is an open letter from the powerhouse vocalist to herself. She digs deep as she explains how her parent’s volatile relationship influences her actions in intimate relationships today.
“Everything that was good, I let slip behind. [I] only learned [from] what I was raised on. [I had] two parents in a f—g war zone. I thought it was love, so that’s how I’m designed,” she sings.
“I hope you find…I hope you find…what you’ve been looking for.”
Benita’s “Hope U Find” is both heavy and deeply relatable. The vulnerability and emotion displayed throughout “Hope U Find” sets the tone for what will surely be a big year for the Toronto vocalist in 2025.
