After missing the entirety of the NBA Season, Brooklyn Nets forward Ben Simmons will undergo back surgery. The microdiscectomy procedure will focus on a herniated disc and should alleviate the pain Simmons is feeling in his back. The Brooklyn Nets forward has had a journey this year after sitting out with the Philadelphia 76ers, being traded for James Harden, and then dealing with back pain and being unable to help the Brooklyn Nets to close out the season. Hopefully, this surgery will fix that last problem and he will be able to come back healthy next season.
Nets announce that Ben Simmons will undergo a “microdiscectomy procedure” on Thursday to “alleviate pain caused by the herniated disc” in his back.

Ben Simmons has proved himself on the court as a defensive player of the year candidate and the Brooklyn Nets are hoping he will return at that caliber. It became clear that the situation with the Philadelphia 76ers would not be resolved. Brooklyn then faced their own situation with James Harden and the two teams worked out a deal just before the trade deadline. Both deals have had their problems since then.
Brooklyn Nets’ Ben Simmons is expected to need 3-to-4 months to make a full recovery on back surgery, sources tell ESPN. The expectation is that he’ll be ready to return well ahead of training camp.

Ben Simmons is just 25 years old and still has the majority of his career ahead of him. This one-year setback does not have to define his career and next season when he’s healthy he can reclaim his spot in the NBA. We here at Def Pen Sports wish Simmons the best in his recovery and return to the court.
