In 2014, MGM and Paramount Pictures announced that they would be co-producing a remake of Ben-Hur, the 1959 film which won eleven Oscars (a feat that has only been matched by Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King). And now, the trailer is finally here!
Many devoted fans are up in arms about the remaking of such prestigious classic, according to Slash Film. But, we must remember that the 2016 movie will mark the fourth film adaptation of the original novel – so perhaps this remake deserves a chance.
“[Ben-Hur] returns to the heart of Lew Wallace’s epic novel focusing on the nature of faith. The story follows a falsely accused nobleman who survives years of slavery to take vengeance on his best friend who betrayed him. Both must come to choose between retribution or forgiveness” (Paramount Pictures).
As reported by Wired, the movie is under command of director Timur Bekmambetov and stars Jack Huston as the titular character, Toby Kebbell as the Judas of the story and Morgan Freeman playing a very Morgan-Freeman-esque character. Be sure to see the first look at them in action in the trailer below!
Ben-Hur will roll into US theaters on August 12.
