Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan laid a crushing hit on Packers wide receiver Davante Adams on Thursday night that landed him in the hospital. Whether it was a dirty or clean hit, it won’t matter when it comes to punishment. Trevathan has been suspended for two games for his helmet to helmet hit. The new Bears linebacker has decided to appeal the suspension.

“The league said that Trevathan violated Rule 12, Section 2, Article 6 (i) which states that “there shall be no unnecessary roughness. This shall include, but will not be limited to: (i) using any part of a player’s helmet or facemask to butt, spear, or ram an opponent violently or unnecessarily.”
If the suspension holds, the Bears linebacker could return following Chicago’s week 6 game against the Ravens. Christian Jones and John Timu will likely seize playing time with Trevathan on the sideline. Still, Trevathan believes he shouldn’t be suspended for his play.
“I was just trying to make a play. It wasn’t intentional. I was just trying to do my job and he ended up getting hurt,” Trevathan said. “I’m sorry about that and I’m going to reach out to him.”
“I don’t think it should be a suspension, but you never know,” he said. “I’m just going to send a prayer out. My main concern was that he’s OK.”

Danny Trevathan’s suspension has been reduced to one game. Ian Rapaport reported the news via Twitter.

Trevathan originally was suspended two games for a helmet to helmet hit on Packers wide receiver Devante Adams. He will be able to return for the Bears October 15 game against the Ravens.
