Baron Davis has not played in The NBA since 2012 and according to TMZ Sports that could change pretty soon. Davis is reportedly staying in shape and is eyeing a return to the NBA as soon as this season. Davis was last seen playing for The New York Knicks in 2012 only playing in 29 games for a Knicks team that desperately needed a Point Guard and took a chance on Davis.
At the age of 35 and on the comeback trail Davis is looking for a back up Point Guard role and has been in contact with “multiple contenders” TMZ stated The Los Angeles Clippers or Cleveland Cavaliers are the two most likely destinations which Davis played for both teams not too long ago. Obviously things have changed for both rosters since his time with both organizations.
Davis could fill needs for quite a few teams if he can remain healthy and obviously he will not be asked to carry a scoring load, but he can provide some scoring and leadership off the bench for both teams.
Realistically both teams can only offer the veterans minimum and Cleveland would have to make a roster move to make room for the 2 time NBA All Star. The Los Angeles Clippers who’ve gone 4-6 in their past 10 games seem to be up and down with their play and could use some depth, but does Baron Davis really set this team over the top? I don’t think so.
A lot of The Clippers issues seem to be internal and a little bit to do with Blake Griffin being out due to injury too. If Davis can come in and provide Chris Paul some rest to give Doc Rivers a quality veteran off the bench it could pay off. Now will it guarantee a championship for The Clippers I don’t think so.
This is the surprising news of the day though, and Davis when healthy always was a talented NBA player his problem was just staying on the court. Right now nothing is etched in stone, but Davis seems eager to get back this season.
