Today, Nipsey Hussle will be laid to rest in his hometown of Los Angeles, California. However, Nipsey Hussle could not said goodbye without a party. This afternoon, thousands of friends, family and fans gathered at the Staples Center to celebrate the life of Nipsey Hussle. During the ceremony, Louis Farrakhan, Jhene Aiko, Stevie Wonder and many more stopped by to celebrate all that Nipsey offered in his powerful time on earth. One of the most touching moments of the entire celebration came at the very beginning.

Following a moving performance of “Real Big” by Marsha Ambrosius, Karen Civil took the stage to offer a message from one of the country’s foremost leaders. Karen Civil read a letter to Nipsey’s friends and family that was written by Barack Obama. Former President Obama wrote, “While most folks look at the Crenshaw neighborhood where he grew up and see only gangs, bullets and despair, Nipsey saw potential.” He added, “He saw hope. He saw a community that, even through its flaws, taught him to always keep going. He choice to invest in that community rather than ignore it.”
