Barack and Michelle Obama may no longer be in the White House, but the two are far from retired. Michelle Obama just wrapped up her nationwide book tour that sold out from coast to coast. Meanwhile, Barack Obama was off running the Obama Foundation. Now, the two are teaming up for a partnership with the streaming giant, Netflix.
As reported previously, Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company, Higher Ground Productions, has partnered with Netflix for a multi-year deal. This week, the production company unveiled its first slate of films and series.
The first lineup of Mile High Production offerings will include the Sundance award-winning documentary, American Factory. Other titles include Crip Camp, a documentary that follows the story of summer camp for disabled teens that helped propel the disability rights movement. Most notably, Mile High Productions will produce a feature length film about the life of Frederick Douglass. In total, Higher Ground Productions will roll out seven new projects during this installment of Netflix programming.
In a statement, Michelle Obama wrote, “We love this slate because it spans so many different interests and experiences, yet it’s all woven together with stories that are relevant to our daily lives.” Michelle Obama added, “We can’t wait to see these projects come to life — and the conversations they’ll generate.”
Each of the seven projects are currently in development and will be released over the next few years.
