Punters are people too! The Ravens made sure to let their punter know just how valuable he is.
The Baltimore Ravens recently confirmed that they have verbally agreed to a five-year contract extension with punter Sam Koch. The new deal will pay Koch $16.25 million over the five years which includes a $4 million signing bonus. Koch, 32, was entering the final year of his contract that was signed back in 2011.
“I’m extremely excited that I will continue to be a Raven for the next several years. It has always been my idea that I’ll be a Raven for life, because this is a first-class organization. There is no better place to be, and you can’t ask for a better owner than Steve Bisciotti,” Koch said.
“I’m thankful that my family and I will continue to be a part of a team that has so many great people – players, coaches and staff members – who work hard to be the best at everything they do.”
Koch is regarded as one of the top punters in the game but the team has plenty of work to do with other possible extensions. After agreeing to a new deal with star cornerback Jimmy Smith the futures of Justin Tucker, Marshal Yanda, and Kelechi Osemele are still in doubt. It remains to be seen whether a new deal will be reached with the previous three before the start of the regular season.
