James Cameron and 20th Century Fox has just announced that the highest grossing film of all time will be getting three sequels.
All three sequels will be shot simultaneously with Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana expected to reprise their roles. Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, writers of ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ were brought on to write the sequels with Cameron along with ‘Terminator: The Sarah Conor Chronicles’ creator Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno who previously worked with Cameron on ‘Fantastic Voyage’.
The original ‘Avatar’ has grossed $2.7 billion worldwide.
‘Avatar 2’ is slated for a December 2016 release with ‘Avatar 3’ and ‘Avatar 4’ following in 2017 and 2018.
