Automattic, the company that powers both WordPress and Tumblr, is entering the podcast game. Recently, the tech company acquired the growing podcast platform, Pocket Casts.
“As part of Automattic, Pocket Casts will continue to provide you with the features needed to enjoy your favorite podcasts (or find something new),” Eli Budelli of Automattic wrote in a blog post.
“We will explore building deep integrations with WordPress.com and Pocket Casts, making it easier to distribute and listen to podcasts.”
Automattic will take over for the app’s previous proprietors, NPR and BBC Studios. With that said, Pocket Casts Co-Founders Russell Ivanovic and Philip Simpson will continue to run the company.
“As part of Automattic, Pocket Casts will continue to provide you with the features needed to enjoy your favorite podcasts (or find something new). We will explore building deep integrations with WordPress.com and Pocket Casts, making it easier to distribute and listen to podcasts,” Budelli added.
“We’re thrilled that we can continue to give our users a multitude of ways to tell and engage with stories that matter.”
