The Atlanta Hawks have been in trade rumors for quite some time now as they were reportedly looking to move their star player, Paul Millsap. They then decided to not trade Millsap and instead sent Kyle Korver to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Now, as Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting, the Hawks are looking to add some pieces to their roster.
The Hawks are currently the fifth seed in the East with a record of 32-24, but are just half a game behind the Raptors and two games behind the Wizards for the third seed. Atlanta is now looking to make a run at gaining a home-field advantage in the playoffs by becoming a top four seed.
The Atlanta Hawks have a good portion of their team up for free agency at the end of this season. Thabo Sefolosha, Tiago Splitter, Kris Humphries, Mike Scott, and Mike Muscala are all on the final year of their contract. Meanwhile, Paul Millsap has a player option, Mike Dunleavy has a team option, and Tim Hardaway Jr. will be a restricted free agent.
Unless the Hawks are able to deal Dennis Schroeder, Dwight Howard, or Kent Bazemore, they are locked into that core for over $50 million a year for at least the next couple of years.
Players like Tiago Splitter, Kris Humphries, Mike Scott, and Mike Dunleavy would most likely just be included in trades for salary filler. The Hawks also have some picks they could look to add to sweeten any deal that comes their way.
