The Atlanta Falcons came into the 2016 NFL Free Agency period coming off one of the hardest decisions ever for the franchise. After cutting wide receiver Roddy White, the Falcons were looking to move on and make a big splash with money to spend.
They might not have made the biggest waves but they did sign players at positions of need. Replacing Roddy White will be Mohamed Sanu and joining young pass rusher Vic Beasley on the defensive side of the ball will be Derrick Shelby.
Kevin Patra of NFL Network reports both players have inked deals with the Falcons, courtesy of Ian Rapoport.
Mohamed Sanu, agreed to a five-year deal worth $32.5 million with the Atlanta Falcons, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports, per a source involved in the deal.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports defensive end Derrick Shelby will sign with the Falcons.
The deal is for four years, $21 million, a source told NFL Media’s Jeff Darlington.
The 27-year-old defensive end Shelby had a stellar end to his 2015 season, replacing Cameron Wake and starting nine games. Shelby compiled 31 quarterback hurries, 3.5 sacks and four passes defensed in 2015.
2014 was the best season for Sanu when he caught 56 passes for 790 yards and five touchdowns in 13 starts but fellow pass catcher on the Bengals, Marvin Jones, missed the entire season. 2015 was a down year for the receiver as he only started four games and caught 33 passes for 894 yards with zero touchdowns.
