The Houston Astros have a record of 34-24, ten games above .500, and are in first place in a tough American League West division on June 8th. That’s just what everyone predicted (not really). There have been multiple players who have stepped up big time like second baseman Jose Altuve, ace starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel, number 2 starter Collin McHugh, left fielder Preston Tucker, and of course the pitchers in their bullpen deserve a lot of credit for stepping up as much as they have.
Now, they’ve officially called up the number 1 overall pick in the 2012 draft, top prospect Carlos Correa, to play shortstop in this lineup every day. Thus far in 2015, in both AA and AAA, Correa has hit a combined .335 with 10 home runs and 44 RBI in 53 games. The 20 year old is going to try to fill a hole that the Astros have definitely needed since Jed Lowrie went down with a torn ligament in his thumb earlier in the season. Correa will join the team in Chicago today when they play the White Sox and he will wear the number 1 on the back of his jersey.
This is a very young Houston Astros team that is loaded with talent, are in first place in the division, and are far from a finished product. Hopefully they can continue to play at a high level and hang in there with teams like the Los Angeles Angels and the Texas Rangers to make it a three team race all season long.
