The beginning of 2018 will see the remaining holdouts of the 2018 recruiting class decide where they want to go to college and play basketball. The end of 2017, however, will see one five-star in the 2019 class decide where he wants to play. Ashton Hagans has decided he wants to stay in the state of Georgia to play for the Bulldogs. The Five-Star point guard is currently ranked first in the state of Georiga, second at his position and 11th in the nation.
The Georgia Bulldogs aren’t exactly known for picking up these types of recruits in basketball, and with Hagans coming to campus in the near future they could be looking up in both football and basketball. Hagans was also looking at Florida State and in-state rival Georgia Tech. While he considered those other schools he was leaning heavily toward the Bulldogs and gave them an early Christmas gift with the official commitment.
The early commitment by Hagans gives the Bulldogs a chance to lure in some more talent in the 2019 and possibly even the 2018 class. Any player that doesn’t want to be a one and done could be tempted by playing with a guy like Hagans in their sophomore year. The Bulldogs are heavily targeting Elias King and Marcus Watson in the 2019 class as well as Tony Johnson in 2018.
Hagans could end up being a “one and done” but his value for even one year could go a long way for the Bulldogs basketball program once he gets to campus and suits up.
Update: 12/27/17
The Georgia Bulldogs have landed four-star small forward Elias King of the 2019 recruiting class. King is ranked third in the state of Georgia, 16th at his position, and 55th in the class.
