Sweedish prosecutors have elected to charge A$AP Rocky with assault following an alleged fight that took place on June 30.
The Harlem rapper was in Sweeden to perform at a local musical festival. Multiple reports assert that Rocky and his team were being followed by a few “fans” who allegedly harassed them.
A$AP’s lawyer, Slobodan Jovicic, states, “Rakim Mayers feels that he acted in self-defense, he is claiming that he is innocent, and in that perspective he of course is very sad.”
Despite claims of self-defense, prosecutor Daniel Suneson has argued that Rocky and company were the aggressors. According to a report from the AP, Rocky and his two friends are “suspected of assault causing actual bodily harm, having come to the conclusion that the events in question constitute a crime and despite claims of self-defense and provocation.”
Furthermore, he states, “It is worth noting that I have had access to a greater amount of material than that which has previously been available on the internet.” He adds, “In addition to video material, the injured party’s statements have been supported by witness statements.”
A$AP Rocky’s trial is expected to begin on Tuesday and continue through August 2nd. Cameras will not be allowed in the courtroom. If convicted, Rocky faces up to two years in prison.
