The Oakland A’s have agreed to a deal that will send Tyler Clippard to the New York Mets in exchange for minor league pitcher Casey Meisner. John Heyman from CBS Sports was the first to report the news.

The Mets will also receive cash considerations in the trade making the deal very affordable for New York. Clippard, 30, will serve as a bridge to Jeurys Familia and likely becomes the new 8th inning guy for the Mets. The former A’s closer has a 2.79 ERA for the year and could prove to be a valuable piece out of the pen. Clippard has an expiring contract that will make him a free agent in 2016 so it remains to be seen whether he will remain in New York beyond this season. The Mets have already added Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson and may not be done having interest in adding outfielder Carlos Gomez and Justin Upton.
With the A’s seemingly out of the race general manager will continue his rebuild after already trading Scott Kazmir to Houston. Oakland did get a decent return for Clippard in Casey Meisner considering his expiring contract. Meisner is the 15th ranked prospect in the Mets system according to MLB.com. The hard throwing righty could have a bright future in the league as he is a menacing force at 6’7″.
