Rookie 4th round pick Logan Thomas will start for Arizona in the regular season finale against a reeling 49ners squad. This will be the Cardinals 4th different quarterback this season. Carson Palmer, Drew Stanton, and Ryan Lindley were the previous three. Lindley will be replaced after completing just 41 percent of his throws vs. Seattle. Thomas is a 6’6″ rookie from Virginia Tech who is raw but talented. After his red shirt sophomore season at VTech, Thomas had all the makings of being a first round quarterback but those dreams quickly vanished after a nightmarish final two seasons. Logan possess all the physical tools yet has a bad habit for turning the ball over. The good news is if any one can make Thomas productive it’s head coach Bruce Arians.
Arizona currently sits at 11-4 already having clinched a playoff spot. The red birds will most likely take the 5th or 6th seed unless Seattle takes an unexpected loss at home against the Rams. Head coach Bruce Arians has done a brilliant job this season and is the sure fire coach of the year. The coach seemed optimistic to start the rookie signal caller this week exclaiming
“I think we need to find out what he can do,” Arians said of Thomas, “for the future and the playoffs if it were to come to that. And that’s my job to make sure we cover every base.”
The super bowl takes place in Arizona this year and will need a miraculous run from this rookie if they have any shot. The Cardinals first playoff match up will most likely feature an away game with Dallas or the eventual NFC South winner (Atlanta or Carolina). The hope is for an injured Drew Stanton to return for the post season but that appears unlikely at this point.
