For sometime now, Apple has made it known that it wishes to distance itself and their products from wired headphones. In 2017, the tech company made the controversial decision to no longer include a headphone jack with their new phones. Instead, customers were given wireless earphones. However, customers still had the option of plugging their headphones in using a dongle. According to reports from MacRumors, it appears that they days of the earphone dongle option could be numbered. Thanks to a research note from Barclays, we have reason to believe that Cirrus Logic, the supplier of the earphone dongle, has confirmed that Apple will no longer supply customers with a dongle. Customers will now be forced to conform to the wireless earphone lifestyle or pay $9 for an Apple earphone dongle.
While these reports have not been confirmed, it appears that the source behind these reports is solid. With that being said, some have begun to question whether or not the decision to save a bit per customer is actually worth it. Only time will tell. For the time being, users are still provided with a dongle, but that could change in the near future.
Apple has yet to comment on these most recent reports.
