Apple is currently developing a television show based on the youth and career of NBA superstar Kevin Durant. The drama series dubbed Swagger will focus on the impact the Amateur Athletic Union, also known as AAU, has on the lives of young players, coaches, and families.
The 2017 Finals MVP will be involved in the production of Swagger as an executive producer. As Apple looks to develop more original content, Durant’s new series will look to garner a significant NBA audience.
The following from Variety:
The series will be produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Television along with Durant’s Thirty Five Media. Durant and Grazer will executive produce, along with Imagine’s Francie Calfo and Thirty Five Media’s Rich Kleiman.
Reggie Rock Bythewood will serve as writer. Bythewood previously collaborated with Imagine on the Fox limited series “Shots Fired,” which he created.
Durant continues to venture into the media landscape as this latest project is another addition to the growing list of opportunities Durant has created for himself. Durant created ThirtyFive Media with business partner Rich Kleiman as they use the platform to further Durant’s efforts in the entertainment industry.
The popularity of Durant’s YouTube channel has prompted several other players to come to Durant for his input on how to navigate the medium. YouTube recognized Durant’s success, and it eventually led to a partnership between to the two to create more sports based content for the site.
29-year-old Durant is averaging 26 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game this season for the Golden State Warriors. Durant will also be playing in his ninth All-Star Game on Saturday in Los Angeles.
