Music Business Worldwide has confirmed that the Apple Music Festival will no longer exist.
The annual festival originated in 2007 with concerts being held nightly for a month. Apple changed the name from iTunes Festival as a part of their rebranding strategy. Since 2015, the concert series scaled down to a 10 night-long event at the Roundhouse in Camden, London in September. Recent acts include Alicia Keys, Pharell, Kendrick Lamar, and Chance the Rapper. Last year’s lineup even included the legendary Elton John.
Although Apple has nixed this festival, the company still has plans to continue having a hand in live music events. The tech giant was recently a partner of shows by Haim and Skepta in London and had a presence at SXSW this year where it backed shows from Vince Staples and DJ Khaled.
Tim Cook’s music team has had its hand in the game in general as of late. From Diddy’s Bad Boy documentary to Travis Scott’s deal, I can definitely see them changing the music game as they did with technology.
