Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James has done a few things to cause fans to question his loyalty to the Cavs. He unfollowed the team on Twitter and Instagram, and then said that he would be willing to take a pay cut to team up with Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, and Dwyane Wade. GM David Griffin and head coach Tyronn Lue spoke with him privately about his behavior. Then, he said that he believes the Cavs are ready to make a championship run, despite saying that they aren’t ready for the playoffs less than three weeks ago. Mixed signals much?
Former NBA guard Antonio Daniels spoke about LeBron’s behavior on SiriusXM NBA Radio, and wasn’t pleased:
“I would hate to be in a locker room with a guy who has one foot out the door already, but is constantly talking about leadership and is constantly talking about the process of becoming a championship-caliber team, a guy who’s constantly talking about, ‘You know, we have to understand the magnitude of the situation that’s here now with the team that we have put together, we have the opportunity to do something special’. ‘Cause in the back of my mind I’m thinking… What a hypocrite! You’re speaking about one thing, but your actions say something completely different.”
Daniels played 13 seasons in the NBA, posting career averages of 7.6 points and 3.4 assists per game. He won a championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 1999.
