In case you need a refresher, Johnnie Cochran was the lawyer who famously won the acquittal of O.J. Simpson for his murder trial. What many people don’t know about the controversial lawyer is that he was a strong advocate in the movement against police brutality.
This Cochran is the one that Mackie will be portraying. According to The Hollywood Reporter‘s exclusive article,
“The untitled project will center on the 1981 court case that saw Cochran defending the family of college football player Ron Settles, who had been picked up for speeding and was later found beaten and hanged in his jail cell.”
Mackie will also be a producer for the film, along with Robbie Brenner and Jason Spire. David McMillan has penned the script.
