The New Orleans Pelicans got out to a horrid start this season. Despite the amazing play of star forward Anthony Davis, the Pelicans have been unable to win many games.
Regardless of how he’s carried the team, Davis does not seem disparaged about his future with the team. In a feature written by Shams Charania of The Vertical, the big man claims that his will to win in New Orleans hasn’t changed:
“My desire to win here is the same,” Davis told The Vertical. “I go out there and play. I don’t care what the record is. I just go out there and play. I have to lead this team and make sure my guys are always happy and high energy. I don’t care what people say about our team. They’re not in our locker room seeing us, not part of our group. That’s all white noise.
“I just try to control what I can: go out there and compete.”
Davis does not have much of a choice right now. He is under contract for the next four years, not including this one. And the Pelicans may not be as bad as their record indicates. They now have Jrue Holiday back after his wife Lauren’s medical complications were fixed. They have won three games in a row and five of their last seven, including wins over four probable playoff teams.
Perhaps, Anthony Davis is on to something.
