The New Orleans Pelicans are far from consistent. They’re second to last in the Western Conference, even their record in the past 10 games says it all. 5-5, not the greatest recent record in the world.
As always, Anthony Davis is the only shining light for the Pelicans and he occasionally gets help from his teammates, occasionally. He’s getting frustrated with the spotty play, recently edging out a win against the Rockets but then blowing it against the Magic.
“We just don’t play hard all the time,” Pelicans forward Anthony Davis said. “That starts with our first unit coming out and setting the pace and setting the tone for the rest of the game and setting the tone for the guys that sub in especially after halftime. That’s kind of been our thing this year. It starts with the first unit and it starts with me.”
“Teams go into halftime and make adjustments and get into us and pressure us and we haven’t been good with that all year,” Davis said. “We kind of struggle and teams come down and capitalize and we start complaining and doing whatever and they’re trying to take advantage of it.“
That last paragraph tells me that there’s a problem on the coaching side. I don’t want to put words into Davis’ mouth but when you’re saying teams can easily adjust in halftime and take over in the second half. That, to me, sounds like a coaching problem.
