The Brooklyn Nets have decided to waive former number one overall pick, Anthony Bennett and sign veteran big man, Quincy Acy. In his short stint with the Nets, Bennett only appeared in 23 games and averaged 5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. Now a free agent, Bennett, who was the top pick 2013, will now have played for four teams in four seasons.

Unfortunately for Bennett, this will be another failed attempt to justify that he deserves to be in the NBA and that he isn’t apart of the ‘top pick bust’ narrative.
After being waived by the last-place Brooklyn Nets, it’s hard to find a scenario or argument against Bennett not being a bust at this point. Injuries aside, Bennett had the platform and the talent to resurrect his career and become a solid player. The Nets’ were Bennett’s last opportunity to turn the tide, but Bennett was never able to step out of the shadow of something he couldn’t control, being drafted number one.
In hindsight, Bennett never deserved to be number one overall pick in the first place. Unfortunately, the NBA is a business and you have to produce to stay on a team and today is a perfect example of that.
