Legendary vocalist Anita Baker is the latest person to express their admiration for Victoria Monet’s latest studio album, Jaguar II.
“I wanna make a classic love song that Anita Baker would be proud of,” Victoria Monet tweeted nearly two years ago.
Eighteen months later, she returned to deliver Jaguar II, which includes the D’Mile-produced track, “How Does It Make You Feel.” The angelic, soulful single caught the attention of Baker, who called it a “masterpiece.”
“You’ve already done it by using all of your gifts. ‘How Does It Feel’ is a melodic masterpiece,” she replied to Monet’s initial tweet from 2022.
Anita Baker is not the only person who feels “How Does It Feel” and Jaguar II are melodic masterpieces. Billboard said it was the second-best R&B album of 2023, while VIBE crowned it the best album of 2023. Meanwhile, the Recording Academy bestowed six GRAMMY nominations upon Jaguar II. Victoria Monet also earned a nomination for “Best New Artist” at the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards.
