The Los Angeles Angels are interested in trading for Reds corner outfielder Jay Bruce. Jon Morosi of Fox Sports confirmed the organization has scouts watching the Reds today. The move for the Angels would make a ton of sense as the team has been searching for a third outfielder aside of Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun.
It’s been known that the Reds will start their inevitable fire sale after being hesitant to make any moves prior to the All-Star game. The only Reds that appear to be safe from being traded are 3rd baseman Todd Frazier and speedy center-fielder Billy Hamilton. Through 86 games the Reds right-fielder is batting .255, .342 on base %, and 14 home runs.
Bruce’s contract is fairly manageable as he is owed $12.5 million in 2016 with a club option for $13 million in 2017. Bruce also has a limited no-trade clause as he can block trades to 8 teams D-Backs, Red Sox, Marlins, Twins, Yankees, A’s, Rays and Blue Jays. It’s unclear what other teams are interested in Bruce but he is sure to be a hot commodity as the trade deadline is quickly approaching. The Mets are one team that could be interested as they have been desperately searching for offense.
