The rookie of the month awards for the month of December have came in, and what a surprise! Andrew Wiggins of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Nikola Mirotic of the Chicago Bulls were named Western and Eastern Conference Rookies of the Month of December, respectively. Andrew Wiggins averaged 14.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 0.9 steals. Nikola Mirotic averaged 9.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, and recorded 9 double-doubles in the 15 games the Chicago Bulls played in December.
These two players are very different in what we can see them becoming in their hopefully long NBA careers. Nikola Mirotic reminds me of a mixture of Pau Gasol and Taj Gibson, the funny thing is, both those players are Chicago Bulls. He plays a European style of basketball, while still being able to rebound and be aggressive.
Andrew Wiggins is completely a different story. People are just waiting for him to have that superstar break out. To those people, SLOW DOWN. He’s 19. He has won the Rookie of the Month award two months in a row, and now he is looking to expand his game. This year, Andrew Wiggins goal should be just getting used to the NBA. Being able to adapt his playing style to the NBA, and then elaborate and become a superstar at what he does best. It will all come, but with time. Cleveland is probably kicking themselves right now.
