The Minnesota Timberwolves came into the night without two of their best scorers in their rotation. Zach LaVine and Shabazz Muhammad were both rested on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Lakers due to a right knee soreness. Without those two, the remainder of the roster would absolutely need to step up and Andrew Wiggins answered the call.
The former number one overall pick went off for 47 points on the night against the Lakers. Although he didn’t put down any crazy dunks, Wiggins did his scoring mostly from the free throw line. He shot 14-21 from the field but he went 17-22 from the free throw line while he also grabbed four rebounds and handed out three assists.
Lakers guard D’Angelo Russell added his opinion about Wiggins scoring output.
Russell on Wiggins' 47 points:"Anybody in this league is capable of doing that when you go to the free throw line that many times"(17 of 22)

Check out the highlights below.
Despite LaVine not playing, he did still participate in the fun, giving Wiggins a water bomb during his postgame interview.
Andrew Wiggins stepping up, against a hot Lakers team, really shows some positive signs in his growth. The swingman was forced to play at the two tonight in place of LaVine and Nemanja Bjelica started in Wiggins spot and scored a career-high 24 points.
After the game, Timberwolves head coach and team president Tom Thibodeau “gushed” about the Wiggins and Bjelica combo on the perimeter.
Thibs gushed about the length with Wiggins at the 2 and Bjelica at the 3. Have to wonder if he'll revisit it going forward.
