During the 2018 season, Miller served as a reliever for the Indians who had Brad Hand and Cody Allen to supplement at the back-end of their bullpen. He battled through injuries turning up a rough statistical season with a 4.24 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP for the Indians. He did manage to have 45 strikeouts through 34 innings pitched in the 2018 season.
During the 2018 postseason, Miller did not appear much, only throwing a third of an inning in the ALDS loss to the Houston Astros. Miller was battling arm issues coming into the postseason and the Indians did not want to risk further injury. The Cardinals are banking on the fact that Miller is healthy and will be back to his normal self where he can be an effective piece to their back-end bullpen.
