The Warriors depth at the center position last season was unbelievably versatile between Marreese Speights, David Lee, Festus Ezeli, and starter Andrew Bogut. Each gave them a different, respectable look, but Bogut was the primary anchor.
Bogut missed the first five games of the season due to a concussion, and with David Lee now in Boston, interim head coach Luke Walton has been going with Ezeli as the starter and the Warriors haven’t missed a beat. Still, it looks like Bogut will be formally re-claiming his spot as the starting center.
From Monte Poole of CSN Bay Area:
After raising the team’s defensive standard while grabbing 18 rebounds in a win over Brooklyn last Saturday, center Andrew Bogut will return to the starting lineup for the Warriors.
The move could happen as soon as Tuesday night, when the Warriors meet Toronto at Oracle Arena.
Interim coach Luke Walton implied nothing official has been decided, but a team source indicated Bogut is almost certain to start against massive Raptors center Jonas Valanciunas.
Again, the Warriors have looked no less effective or efficient with Ezeli as the starting center. Ezeli’s athleticism and energy was more than enough to anchor a 6-0 start without Bogut, so Walton can’t necessarily go wrong here. In terms of comparing, Bogut has more skill as a passer, which means plenty for them in half court offense. Putting Bogut back in the starting lineup is just getting guys back to their typical roles while still having that versatility.
