The days of Andrea Bargnani in the NBA are over, it seems. The Italian-born center is taking his talents to Spain. He will be playing for Saski Baskonia, otherwise known as Laboral Kutxa Baskonia.
Bargnani played 46 games for the Brooklyn Nets last season. Ultimately he was bought out of his contract as he stated that staying with the team made no sense.
Bargnani has the misfortune of being known as one of the bigger draft busts in the 2000’s. Drafted first overall by the Toronto Raptors in 2006, Bargnani was never able to match the expectations placed on him.
For his career, the big man averaged 14.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. He shot 35% from behind the arc. He spent time playing for the Raptors, Knicks, and Nets before ultimately going back overseas.
Bargnani is still only 30 years old and should be able to make huge contributions for his team.
Having won three Spanish championships as well as several other trophies in its history, Baskonia is a fairly historic club. It has been home to other NBA players such as Goran Dragic, Tiago Splitter, Pablo Prigioni, and Luis Scola.
