Andre Iguodala may win Sixth Man of the Year this season (it’s down to him, Lou Williams or Eric Gordon). This would be a nice award for Iguodala to win; he doesn’t always stuff the stat sheet, but he’s an integral cog in the well-oiled killing machine that is the Golden State Warriors.
Iguodala is a free agent this summer, but he and the Warriors are very much on the same page about bringing him back, per Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News:
Iguodala has already indicated that his negotiation is almost already done and that he will re-sign with the Warriors, though I’m sure there are still deal points to be finalized.
Months ago a source indicated to me that the only real issue to be worked out was the number of guaranteed years.
The Warriors have Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson. They have the most talented team in NBA history. If Iguodala left, the Warriors would still be heavy favorites to win the championship next season. That speaks to the talent on their roster, not to Iguodala’s impact. He would be sorely missed if he left, but it sounds like he’s going to stick around (surprise, surprise).
Per Kawakami, Iguodala’s contract is likely to be between $8-12 million per year. He’s made between $11.1-12.9 million each year for the past four years, so that number is unsurprising.
