Tonight’s highly anticipated contest between the Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder is sure to be an emotional one for many people, but for Warriors forward Andre Iguodala, this is just another game.
“For me, it’s just another game. I mean, if I’m supposed to die over basketball, I’m supposed to die,” Iguodala told ESPN’s Chris Haynes. “So I guess it’s over with. But I’m not going to change my approach.
“If we didn’t play basketball, they wouldn’t give a damn about who we were as people. No one would invest any time in us (and) who we are. But I guess we give them an outlet or an escape from their lives. They’re emotionally attached to us. But when we do things that aren’t in their best interest, there’s an action and a reaction. This is the case tomorrow. This is kind of the world we live in right now.”
Kevin Durant will visit Oklahoma City tonight for the first time since bolting the Thunder on Independence Day last year. The last return after a major decision, LeBron James in Cleveland, resulted in fans heckling, taunting and relentlessly booing the superstar.
Kevin Durant very well understands the potential dangers of being back in Oklahoma, as he reportedly hired an armed security team to stay by his and his family’s side during the trip.
But for Andre Iguodala, tonight’s marquee matchup is just one of the other 81. The goal remains the same as it’s always been in Golden State: Win the day.
