Let the free agency rumors begin. Last night the Golden State Warriors added yet another notch on the belt of history for themselves this year, becoming the 10th team to come back from a 3-1 deficit. The Warriors beat the Thunder in Game 7, and now Oklahoma is in offseason mode.
With that being said, Kevin Durant’s free agency is the biggest topic of discussion that surrounds this Thunder team and their future. The Thunder fought hard and valiantly in Game 7 to come back, but the fire power of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson was too much for them to handle. Finals MVP Andre Iguodala recognized that effort, especially from former league MVP Kevin Durant. According to Jimmy Durkin of Mercury News:
“He made some really tough shots, which is what I expected,” Iguodala said of Durant. “He’s a fighter and competitor and fought to the end. It must be fun playing with a guy like that.”
Iguodala quickly added a follow-up: “Unless I’m not playing with him.”
You can’t help but speculate that Iguodala is hinting at something in the future. Everybody knows if Kevin Durant leaves it’s because he finds a team that has a better chance at winning then the Oklahoma City Thunder. The only 2 or 3 teams that I see as plausible are the San Antonio Spurs, Golden State Warriors, and maybe the Toronto Raptors (that’s just the raptors fan in me). With the Warriors, Spurs, and other teams looking to make a big bid for Durant this offseason, you have to wonder what is going through his head. On one hand Durant just lost, and recapping his efforts with the Thunder is probably what he’s doing. On the other hand, the every growing question of what he’s thinking heading into free agency must be looming in his head.
