Andre Drummond knows that he needs to work on his free throw shooting, and he has been doing just that this summer. For a little bit, he was looking for new ways to shoot free throws, including the possibility of shooting them underhanded.
Drummond spoke with Dom Amore of the Hartford Courant, and told him about his plans for free throw shooting:
“I’m just really going to continue to work on back-to-basket stuff,” Drummond said. “And work on getting better from the foul line. I’m going to stick with the formula I have now.”
It sounds like Drummond has a plan for next season, but will it work? He is a career 38% free throw shooter, and he shot a career low of 35% last season. He obviously has a lot of work to do, so will his formula work? The Pistons just signed Drummond to a massive $130 million deal for the next five years, so they are definitely hoping that Drummond is putting in the work to improve his shooting. The NBA’s new ruling on Hack-A-Shaq will help Drummond, but he will still need to hit his free throws when he gets them. It is sad that we won’t see him shoot them underhanded, but whatever works best is what he will go with.
