AMC Theaters has announced that it will close all of its U.S. locations for six to twelve weeks. This decision will shut down 630 locations and 11,000 screens nationwide. AMC Theaters made this decision shortly after Regal Cinemas made a similar decision to close many of its theaters.
“We are ever so disappointed for our moviegoing guests and for our employee teams that the new CDC guidelines that Americans should not gather in groups larger than 10 people make it impossible to open our theaters,” AMC CEO Adam Aron stated.
“Still, the health and well-being of AMC guests and employees, and of all Americans, takes precedence above all else,” he added.
Many local and state governments have announced that they will be shutting down entertainment venues including sporting arenas, concert halls and movie theaters. Most notably, the city of New York has announced that they will close all movie theaters for the time being.
In conjunction with theaters shutting down, many major films such as F9 have announced that they will be pushing back their release dates.
