Amazon has forked out a whopping $14 million to score the U.S. distribution rights to “The Report,” the new true story political drama from “Contagion” scribe Scott Z. Burns which just premiered at Sundance.
Adam Driver plays a Senate staffer in the Bush-Cheney era assigned the task of leading an investigation into the CIA’s Detention and Interrogation Program. After analyzing extensive evidence, his committee’s attempts to release the results find both the CIA and White House attempting to stop the truth from getting out.
Annette Bening, Jon Hamm, Ted Levine, Maura Tierney, and Michael C. Hall co-star and the plan is for a Fall release later this year.
The deal comes as further buys have taken place at Sundance this past weekend including NEON picking up horror tale “The Lodge,” NEON and Hulu nabbing Abe Forsythe’s horror comedy “Little Monsters,” Sony Classics scoring the doco “Where Is My Roy Cohn,” Gravitas Ventures getting the serial killer drama “A Brilliant Monster,” and A24 has landed Awkwafina’s wedding dramedy “The Farewell”.
