An Amazon employee at a warehouse located in Queens, New York has tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, the company has moved to shut down the warehouse for the foreseeable future.
Luckily, the CDC has clarified that is highly unlikely that an Amazon customer would catch the virus simply by receiving a package from this warehouse. The CDC explains that there is “likely very low risk of spread from products or packaging that are shipped over a period of days or weeks at ambient temperatures.”
According to Vox, the company has “temporarily closed the Queens delivery station for additional sanitation and sent associates home with full pay.” Furthermore, Amazon is also “supporting the individual who is now in quarantine.”
The type of warehouse in question typically employs over 100 employees. It works to sort packages into delivery routes before they end up at customer’s doors.
Amazon has not indicated whether or not it will test all other employees for COVID-19 moving forward. More details will be added to this report as they become available.
