A crushing blow to the New York Knicks this evening with news that Amar’e Stoudemire will miss more than the first month of the NBA season as thought late last week. According to league sources, Amar’e could miss at least 6-weeks after he ruptured a popliteal cyst behind the knee during the Knicks’ exhibition game against Toronto on October 19th. The initial time-frame for a return was a fortnight but after consulting with the Phoenix doctor who performed micro-fracture surgery on him in 2005 it was determined that rest would be the best course of action.
Stoudemire could miss up to the first two months of the season, a time that New York can ill afford to have one of their stars missing for. They open the season with 15-games in November, 9 of which are on the road.
It is not known if Amar’e will undergo surgery, or merely rest the knee, but an official announcement is expected from the Knicks tomorrow.
