The official public relations twitter account for the New York Knicks just announced that the forward will have debridement surgery in his right knee and will be out for at least 6 weeks, putting an end to his regular season. The NBA playoffs start in approximately that same time and it’s unclear if he’ll make it back. It was confirmed by Ian Begley of ESPN New York.

Another tough blow for the New York Knicks, who are currently in the 2nd spot in the Eastern conference, but will have to play without Stoudemire, who was playing well off the bench, for another stretch. The injury will most likely mean that Kenyon Martin will see a lot more playing time, same with forward Kurt Thomas.
