After being under some fire, Alvin Gentry and Dell Demps were able to retain their jobs this season. Now, the Pelicans must look to improving after a somewhat disappointing year.
New Orleans has both Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins under contract next year and should be strong based on that all-star duo alone. But as they learned in the short span in which they had Cousins last year, the two can’t do it all alone.
That’s why, as Gentry put it, keeping Jrue Holiday on the team is of utmost importance:

The Pelicans have been adamant about keeping Holiday for a while now. The point guard is a free agent this summer and will certainly look at his options. But it seems like a safe bet that he’ll re-sign in New Orleans.
Not a lot of teams have a need for a starting point guard and those that do are probably not playoff-caliber teams (the Spurs might be a wildcard here). Plus, Holiday has the ever present financial incentive to stay with his incumbent team.
