Golden State Warriors assistant coach Alvin Gentry is extremely excited to coach Anthony Davis next season as head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans. We now know this for certain because of how Gentry reacted to winning the 2015 NBA Finals with Golden State.
Gentry not only gives a quick shout out to his future star player, who also torched the Warriors for over 30 points, 11 rebounds and exactly 3 blocks per game in the first round of the playoffs, but also implied that Davis will be making his own NBA Finals appearance this time next season. That’s a bold prediction even with all of that champagne flowing, but now we at least have our first glimpse at Gentry’s feelings about the potential of coaching Anthony Davis.
Of course this suggests that his current team would not be in the Finals again next year, which forced Steve Kerr to have his reaction in all smiles. Gentry was a major asset to Kerr’s staff as a rookie head coach. Now they can say they made history together this season.
