Axios has announced that Alexi McCammond will return to Axios after she lefter the outlet to nearly become the editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue last spring.
At 27 years old, McCammond was expected to become the youngest woman to lead Teen Vogue, but potential coworkers raised issues with tweets she had made just a few years ago. Specifically, the emerging journalist called her college teaching assistant a “stupid Asian” and tweeted that she was “googling how to not wake up with swollen, Asian eyes.” McCammons apologized, but she was denied the position altogether.
Following her departure, McCammond worked at MSNBC for a short period of time. Now, she will return to Axios as coverage of the 2022 midterm elections kicks off.
“Alexi McCammond is an accomplished journalist and professional. We’re excited and proud that she is returning to Axios,” Axios CEO Jim VandeHei said.
McCammond published her first story, “Liberals Sour On Bernie,” on July 2.
