A couple of months ago, Jeopardy! fans around the world were floored when long-time host Alex Trebek announced he was diagnosed with stage-4 pancreatic cancer. In the time since Trebek has continued hosting with little to no update on his health. Well, that changed this week. In an interview with People magazine, Trebek revealed that he is “near remission,” according to his doctors.
“It’s kind of mind-boggling,” Trebek stated. Despite the cancer’s 9% survival rate, Trebek is responding extremely well to treatment. “The doctors said they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory…some of the tumors have already shrunk by more than 50 percent.” Trebek says he still has some chemo left to go through but so far, things are looking pretty hopeful.
Trebek then took a moment to extend his gratitude to everyone around the world who’s shown their support for the beloved game show host. “I’ve got a couple million people out there who have expressed their good thoughts, their positive energy directed towards me and their prayers,” he said. “I told the doctors, this has to be more than just the chemo, and they agreed it could very well be an important part of this.”
“I’ve got a lot of love out there headed in my direction and a lot of prayers,” he added. “And I will never ever minimize the value of that.”
