The Utah Jazz are one of those teams where you’re just waiting for them to blossom and dominate. I thought they were wrong to ditch Kanter but that only gave Gobert incentive to become a beast and a future DPOY candidate. When the All-Star break came and went, the Jazz were low key dominating, just a shame that they had a bad start to the season.
Alec Burks has been with the Jazz since he was drafted by them in 2011, when Trey Burke came in, Burks had to give him the ball. When Dante Exum came in, it was clear that at some point, Burks will be third fiddle on the backcourt. Especially when he had to have shoulder surgery. But nevertheless, he’s part of a team and he thinks that he’s part of a very good one.
Q: How’s your left shoulder right now?
A: I think it’s a hundred percent. I just got cleared a couple of weeks ago, so you know, just keep going at it. It’s time to take contact and just go from there.
Q: After the All-Star break, the Utah Jazz, if they maintained that kind of pace all season, would have made the playoffs. Considering how you guys ended last season, what are your thoughts on the prospects for next season?
A: We’re going to build on the second half of our season’s success. They played very well and I wish I could have been out there. But I just can’t wait to get back to training camp. We’ll just try to build on that success.
Q: Personal expectations of the Jazz in the West?
A: Everybody knows the West is competitive. I feel like there’s a lot of young talent and we’re growing every day and the way we finished the second half of the season, it just shows that the future is bright
Q: Would you say that the Jazz have the best young core right now in the NBA?
A: I feel like we do. If we don’t, we’re top-two.
Now I’m wondering what’s the other half of his top two. I think the Jazz should make the Playoffs with the squad they have. Gobert is a potential tank, Gordon Hayward will continue to do his thing, and hopefully Trey Burke will evolve a little more.
